Nothing ruins your day faster than discovering your pillow has more hair on it than your head, right? Our instinctive reaction is often panic. We worry about permanent baldness, but the cause might just be telogen effluvium. This condition is a temporary shedding phase that makes it seem like your hair is quitting all at once. It is one of the most common forms of hair loss in both men and women. But do not worry; there is hope for your hair again! In this article, we will explore telogen effluvium, why it happens, common triggers, and how we can recover from it.


What Causes Telogen Effluvium?


So, what exactly is telogen effluvium? It is a condition where more hairs than normal shift from the growing phase, known as the anagen phase, into the shedding phase, also called the telogen phase. On a normal head of hair, we see around 5-10% of hair in the telogen shedding phase. However, in cases of telogen effluvium, that number can spike to around 30-50%.
